Trees form an intrinsic link between life, the earth, and the environment. They are like threads in the fabric of life, weaving everything together and creating a sustainable balance that allows life to flourish. From maintaining the climate cycle to reducing global warming and producing oxygen-rich air, trees are the ultimate regulators of our planet.
A single mature tree can fulfil the oxygen needs of two to four people in a year. Life without a green cover is unimaginable—nearly 50% of all known species on Earth live in forests. Each tree provides a natural habitat for countless birds, insects, and animals. Whether it’s vast forests or small groves, these green spaces sustain the natural food chain, supporting everything from pollinating insects to apex predators.
For humans, beyond supplying food, wood, and employment, forests have been sacred homes to millions of indigenous tribes worldwide. In urban landscapes, their shade offers relief from the heat, and their presence improves air quality and mental well-being.
Global warming, climate change, and extinction of many species – they are all a direct consequence of rapid deforestation.
It is time for each of us to understand the significance of trees, spread awareness, and take action—planting more trees to heal the damage, calm nature’s fury, and ensure the harmonious coexistence of man and nature.
Latest Green Stats
According to the Forest Survey of India’s 2023 report, 25.17% of the country’s total land area is covered with forests and trees. This equals 827,357 sq. km, of which 715,342.6 sq. km (21.7%) is forest area and 112,014.3 sq. km (3.4%) is tree cover.
While the numbers have improved, much more needs to be done at the grassroots. The National Forest Policy of 1988 recommends that at least 33% of India’s geographical area should be under tree cover—a goal that still needs to be achieved.
Green Celebrations with Mega Tree Plantation Drive – Saving Earth, Saving Future
It takes a truly selfless soul to think and act for the well-being of all life on Earth. When millions of disciples expressed their wish to present a gift to Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan on His holy Incarnation Day, Revered Guru Ji requested a very unique gift—that each disciple plant one tree on His birthday, 15th August.
Thus, in August 2007, the tradition of Mega Tree Plantation Drive came into existence. In the very first year, millions of disciples planted 4 million saplings. Originally conducted on 15th August, the drive is now held annually on 14th August.
These trees are not merely planted—they are nurtured. Watering, pruning, installing tree guards, and timely fertilizing are carried out until the saplings take firm root and mature.
From 2007 to date, 58,904,001 trees have been planted during the August drive, with more than 78% thriving successfully.
Revered Guru Ji also encourages marking special days—such as birthdays, anniversaries, or the memory of loved ones—by planting trees, explaining that each tree will serve the world and bring countless blessings in return.
In India and across the globe, volunteers regularly conduct tree plantation drives, often in collaboration with local authorities. So far, they have planted 111,307,832 trees outside the August drives.
In total, Dera Sacha Sauda volunteers have planted 170,211,833 trees worldwide—that’s over 17 crore trees—and the number continues to rise.
As we welcome the sacred 58th Incarnation Day, let’s prepare our saplings, ready to take root in the soil. Every tree planted will stand as a lifetime friend for future generations—offering shade, fresh air, and positivity, silently witnessing their stories and nurturing their dreams.
Trees are the true pillars of life—the givers of hope, healing, positivity, love, and sustenance for all living beings.
This 14th August, let’s carry on the tradition of giving a unique birthday gift to Saint Dr. MSG, and create a greener, healthier, and happier Earth.
